Ice cream you scream

Ida was shoving vanilla ice cream in her mouth, drowning all her feelings in the food. She was almost alone in the hall. Ida had her blonde hair in two little french braids, which kept swinging on her shoulders. The daughter of Eutychia had planned to train today, but it all went down the drain when she woke up.

Having been sick the past couple of days, I had skipped camp activities and couldn't even eat. Now though I was feeling slightly better so I decided to try and go eat something. Stumbling into the building, I started walking towards my table when I noticed a familiar face eating alone. I debated walking over to sit with her but, after the last events, I decided to refrain from that and instead continued my course towards the Hades table.

Ida heard familiar footsteps, but could not quite place who walked that way. She looked up and noticed the ever-so-happy boy, even though he didn't look so happy right now. You know, the one who stole her first kiss.
Ida dropped her spoon loudly in shock, and it echoed in the empty building. She felt very ambitious that day and stood up. She was not going to let guilt take over her because for something so stupid. Lifting her plate of ice cream Ida sat next to Cas and dropped the plate loudly, and started eating as if nothing happened.

I blinked up at her, surprised at this turn of events. A deep blush covering my cheeks, I tried to continue as if nothing happened. With a cough, I went back to my soup, avoiding looking up at her throughout my lunch.

Ida shoved ice cream in her mouth in silence until realized it was gone. She had to start some kind of a conversation to heal the oh so awkward air. "What's up?" she started, wishing that the boy would catch on.

I coughed again at her sudden question, this time chocking on my food. "Um.."I mumbled, giving her a brief glance. "N-nothing interesting, y-you?"

"Are you sick? You seem to cough a lot." she hit him in the back hard. "Me either, I was just laying around..thinking." Ida was using her spoon as a mirror.

"Y-yeah, I-I caught a cold"I mumbled, my blush deepening. "That sounds nice. Um, thinking is good. Yeah, yeah, it's good to think"I continued awkwardly, shutting up quickly as I realized I was rambling.

"You look really red. Are you sure you're not sick anymore?" she placed her left hand on her forehead and right hand on his, comparing their temperature. "I don't know.." Ida mumbled and folded her hands neatly on her laps.

"Yeah, I'm still kinda sick but I can finally eat so..."I trailed off, looking back up to her. "Um, I just wanted to say, I'm sorry... For, you know. I should have understood"

Ida knew that this topic would come at some point, but she still wasn't prepared. "I overreacted, it's not your fault." she kept mirroring herself from the spoon and adjusted her shirt.

"Still. I shouldn't have done that. It should have been clear to me that you weren't interested. It was improper and I regret it"I explained after taking a second to recompose myself. No you don't regret it liar.

"It's okay, it's not like I didn't like it. It was just a mild shock." her mouth ran by itself and it took her a second to realize what she had said. "I UHM, I MEANT THAT IT'S NOT THAT IT WOULD KILL ME!" she shouted and quickly countered him.

I sat up a little straighter, hope warming my chest. "Oh"I mumbled, shoulders slumping again in despair. "So, you didn't like it? Not at all."

Ida looked deep in Cas' eyes. She instantly knew what caused his bad mood, as it was one of her talents. The girl didn't want to lie and her ambition was long gone. "It was nice I guess." she quickly averted her eyes, and was reaching for her ice cream until realizing there's none, again.

"Oh. Um... Okay"I mumbled quietly, looking back down. "Thanks for being honest with me"I added, playing aimlesly with my soup. "I know it's weird, but could we maybe still be friends? I'll try to refrain from doing that again, I promise"

Ida was a bit weirded out by the question. This guy has no idea where I'm going, does he? she thought to herself. "But that means that I can still do it, right?" she pouted.

"Huh? I-I don't get it"I pouted confused. Wasn't she the one who insisted she didn't like me in that way? What could have changed in a couple of weeks?

"I don't know!" she said. Her opinion was constantly swinging and she couldn't get a grip of herself. Ida was not sure if she liked him as a friend or something more.

"What don't you know, Ida? It's simple, I like you and you don't like me back. It's as simple as it gets. I'm sorry but I can't let you give me hope only to take it back, that's just cruel"I snapped, trying to hide the hurt in my voice. If only I could explain, Ida. I'm only mad at myself, not you. I shouldn't have done that.

"I just don't know! It's never simple! I don't even know what you see in me!" she snapped back at him. Ida was confused as she had never felt this way before. She was always the quiet and a bit intimidating girl, who would read books alone and her mood never swung.

"Everything, silly Ida. From your pretty hair to your expressive eyes to your fiesty but kind soul. I admit I don't know you very much but people say I'm a great judge of character"I explained proudly before returning to the serious conversation. "Look, I hate to do this to you. Maybe it's just the best that we go back to being strangers"

Ida was blushing just as hard as he was. She stretched out her hand and offered a handshake. "Fine then! My name is Ida, I'm 16 and a daughter of Eutychia." she said in a stern voice, not wanting to entirely let go.

"I know that, silly"I chuckled, running a hand through my messed up hair. "But I'm Cas, I'm 16 and I'm a son of Hades"I added quickly, desperate to see where this went

"I know that, silly." she mimicked his voice and messed her hair up in the same way.
