| Rowan awoke to the sounds of birds. Their song was clear and ringing, and entirely unfamiliar to her. She looked up to see mossy branches towering above her, covered in scarlet leaves that gleamed in the morning sun. She herself was covered in scarlet leaves, damp and cold against her skin. She was already shivering, only wearing jeans and a short sleeved t-shirt. It only took her a split second to realize she was no longer at home.
The last thing she remembered was their father inviting them to dinner. It was a somewhat common occurrence, his way of checking in on his kids and making sure they were reaching their full potential. All four of them were there that night. She remembered crystal goblets being placed before them, filled with wine. Their father raised his and toasted to their accomplishments. Maybe she should've been tipped off by that. Then she was seeing double, too confused to be alarmed by the hand that appeared at her shoulder. That was the end.
Rowan sat up sharply, looking around to take in her surroundings. About five feet on either side of her lay Aspen and Liam, both still asleep. Helmer wasn't there though. Perhaps he had waken up before her and gone off to survey. On a clean cut tree stump she could see a letter in a navy blue envelope. Whatever this was, it was her father's doing.
"Shit," she said loudly, causing the nearby bird song to stop abruptly, "guys, wake up."

| Liam vaguely heard his sister's voice. He kind of knew he should open his eyes but he was way to groggy to put two and two together. His mind was still trying to wrap itself around how he didn't remember going to sleep last night, so how is his sister in his room? The next thing that came to his senses was that he was cold and wet, which didn't make any sense, why would his bed be wet? Slowly the events that conspired last night came to his mind, and he remembered having dinner with his dad and siblings. Then he remembered the wine, and how weird it felt after he had finished the cup. He recalled commenting on it before passing out. If he even passed out, maybe he just blacked out and woke up in a ditch? Nah... Not a ditch... Something felt way to familiar about the circumstance, he just couldn't put a finger on it. He never blacks out from one cup of wine. Seriously who does that? Unless.... Liam shot up into a sitting position, "Again?! What the hell?!" He said, blinking at the sun, he glanced around. Aspen was still out cold, Rowan was awake. He couldn't see his last sibling anywhere though. "Did you look at the letter yet?" He asked Rowan, as he eyed the blue envelope.

| Rowan looked at both of her siblings and then to the note that still sat on the stump. She could already feel the cold settling in her bones, her bare skin going numb against the cold air. They'd have to get heavier clothes sooner or later, before they died of frostbite.
Rowan picked up the envelope, sliding out what seemed to be a postcard. She almost rolled her eyes at her dad's attempt to keep the navy blue envelope thing going. The face of the postcard detailed a classic postcard design, with a background of a snow-tipped mountain and forest, and the words "FORKS, WASHINGTON" written in block letters.
Rowan turned the postcard over, their father had written across the back, she read aloud "'Welcome to Hoh Rainforest. You will find your brother and then find me. Your brother is at 47.850435, -123.929125. Before that, head 2 miles north to find supplies. Love, Dad.' God damn, he flew us out to Washington to complete a survival challenge?"

| Liam stood up, and brushed the dirt and wet leaves off his arms. He was wearing only jeans and a t-shirt, and was kind of glad to have decided on jeans instead of the pair of shorts he was originally going to wear. That didn't mean he wasn't feeling the cold, he definitely was, especially since they were from California and weren't used to this cold of weather. Liam was used to this, there had been multiple times in the past where their father kidnapped them and sent them off to the middle of nowhere. To be honest, he probably should've seen this all coming, very rarely does their dad give them wine at a casual dinner. "Survival Challenges are the worst! I'd rather he just throw us in a pit of monsters again! At least then we get back home in the same day...." He mumbled. "Well guess we better start walking. Plus walking should/might warm us up a bit, maybe if we run we won't feel the cold as much..." He said, looking around still.

| While her siblings talked about the envelope and about how their dad's survival challenges were the worst, she looked at her surroundings and tried to take in what could be used as resources. Of course none of them were prepared for the weather that was up here, so Aspen was so far stuck in a pair of jean shorts and a quarter sleeve black shirt.
"Well at least we're in the country. At least we're on ground and he didn't just put us in a boat in the middle of the ocean or something. It could be a lot worse." Aspen said with a shrug of her shoulders, but she was still rather pissed off about all of this. If this survival challenge hindered her performance in her classes, she'd have so many words for her father.
"Alright, well the sun is still up, we should get going now. If we find any supplies that could build us a fire later on we should grab them, I doubt there's not many dry materials around." The demigod said as she started to walk off. "If anyone as anything sharp, you should mark trees with an arrow showing which direction we're going in, so we don't run in circles."

| Rowan nodded, Aspen was right, it could be a lot worse. It could be winter. She looked around, trying to survey her surroundings. For as far as she could see it was just trees, but the ground seemed to slope downward. There was a chance of water that way, a river or stream. But without a filter they'd probably die of some parasites.
Rowan patted her pockets looking for her pocketknife, but it wasn't there. Neither was her phone, wallet, or keys. Something told her her father was smart enough to empty their pockets before dumping them here. "I've got nothing," she said, "but we should probably get going. So, anyone know what way north is?" Rowan glanced up towards the sky, but she couldn't see the sun through the trees. It was probably too early. If she had to guess, it was somewhere around 7am.

| Liam continued to look around, as he checked his own pockets for his phone and pocketknife. Of course there was nothing in them, so he bent down and untied his shoe. At the same time he started to brain storm ideas of way to figure out which way was North. All three of them should know that the sun rised in the east, so if he could figure out which way the sun was coming from then they would be good to go. However, the sun was currently blocked by trees, and he was assuming that they didn't have too much time to waste. "Here." He said, handing Rowan his knife. He kept a second pocketknife in his shoe, and was careful not to let their dad know about it. He then proceeded to climb up a fairly large tree, in order to get an idea of where the sun was coming from. Once he had a good view of where the sun was, he climbed back down. "Alright, lets go!" He said, then started leading the way.

| Aspen watched as Liam pulled a knife out of his shoe. Aspen didn't have that luxury, she was lucky her father even put shoes on her, because she didn't fall asleep with them on. Sometimes the demigod wondered if their relationship with their dad was healthy, more than likely not, but it didn't stop the fact that she loved their father regardless. She's had a few heart to hearts with him since she left the legion. Usually the heart felt talks didn't happen until after they had a yelling match, but they got there. When Liam started to climb the tree, she sighed. "Liam, you shouldn't climb the tree, if you fall and break something it's even more of a hindrance to us." The second eldest of the Davenport children said with her shoulders dropping a bit. As he came back down and continued to walk, Aspen followed him. "Make sure to count how many steps you take, that way if we absolutely need to, we can walk back." | |

| It hasn't cut me yet." Liam said, as he continued walking, he kept the knife closed, and he really didn't feel it anymore. "Sorry I didn't have time to change my socks before we got kidnapped and dropped in the middle of nowhere." He added, jokingly, sort of. Then glanced over at Aspen, who was doing her normal thing of double checking everything he did. Which, ok wasn't technically a bad thing, and sometimes it even helped them all out a lot more then he'd like to admit. But then again, he'd been on more of their father's survivor scenarios then they had. He had everything so perfectly memorized it was almost muscle memory. Well actully it was muscle memory. ".35... 36... 37.. 38... 39... 40..." He stopped walking, "Sorry should I count louder?" He asked her, smiling "cause ya know, I can." He started walking again, but continued to count his steps in his head. | |

| As usual Aspen was just there. Generally how it was being the second born of the four. Liam was born first and thus she was stuck living in his shadow. She didn't even make it to centurion, she just made opito and left the legion. Something she wasn't proud of her, but her fight was over. Ever since the incident she was reserved from the rest of her family, not as close to them at all. She was either at home, at school, out in the fields or by the lake, or in her room with alcohol. "Yeah, sure." Aspen mumbled when Liam asked if her was counting loud enough for her. She continued to walk in and decided to remain silent for the duration of the walk. "No need to wake up the whole forest." | |

| "I really hope not." Liam said, that would mean he was going to get chewed out for having a knife. Then, knowing how their father's brain worked, Liam knew he'd find himself being sent out with no shoes on for the next survival challenge. If Liam wanted to start a argument about it, it's technically not his fault his father didn't think to check his shoes for weapons. His father and everyone else knew he kept random weapons all over his person at all times, even at school. Liam even figured that this would be the first thing they fight about when he got back home, after he showered and took a two day nap, that is... "We have a little less than a mile left, I believe." He told them, as he continued counting in his head. | |

| Aspen remained silent as they continued to walk in the forest. It felt like time had just passed them by a bit. Her brain was on autopilot at this point, just working through the motions of being on the challenge and learning not to fight with her siblings. There was no use in fighting, it'd just hinder everyone. Looking around the forest here did look oddly similar to where she had been about a year ago on her one mission. It was in that moment that the world truly felt small. Her mind was else where while her siblings talked, but when it was mentioned about a camera she shook her head. "Doubt it. He's good, but he's not the greatest with technology like that. We'd have noticed the cameras by now." | |
