Carter reached the Little Tiber, the Sword of Mars in his left hand. Ever since the death of Ainsley and finding the sword, he felt so angry and sad. He would spend hours crying at night, he stopped reading his leadership handbooks (even though one went missing), and he wouldn't wear suits to meetings anymore. The only saving grace he had was the sword. It spoke to him, it understood him. Ever since accepting it as his own, he'd become a different person. He stopped caring for his appearance, starting being a lot meaner, and was certainly not in a good place. His blonde hair was now long and unkept. It had been two and a half weeks, before they had run tests on the sword, and figured out it was doing this to him. His new level of sadness, rudeness, savageness, and not caring. The sword had found itself a host, and it was feeding off of Carter. He'd gotten in fights with practically everyone, went out to kill at practice instead of fight, and even punched his innocent cousin, Charlie, square in the face.

Which was why it needed to be destroyed.

Carter wore a backpack and blue t-shirt, with ripped jeans. Sophia and Christian had agreed to help him. The sword could only be destroyed by a rock from Fingal's Cave, according to legend, and only then would it stop corrupting Carter and driving him to this new way of life. He looked behind him, seeing his sister.

"Took you long enough. How f*cking long does it take to pack a bunch of size 28AA bras?" he asked and spit on the ground. Carter looked at his reflection in the sword. He looked run down, like the Lex Luthor version of himself, if he was Superman.

Sophia rolled her eyes, at her very out-of-his-mind older brother. Carter had only owned the sword for two weeks, and he had already managed to push pretty much everyone who cared for him away. He had even managed to push away Emmett, and he was hard to push away. Right now, she was literally all he had left, probably cause she understood exactly what was wrong with him, and had been there when he claimed the sword in the first place. Oh how she wished they had known what they did now.

"Size 2BAA doesn't exist, dumbass." She told him, she could've said more, but when she looked over at him, she realized he looked even worse than he did yesterday. Frankly he looked like death and she was brutally reminded that his new personality wasn't really his fault, even if half of what he said hurt, a lot. At least he wasn't so far gone to realize something was not ok. Apparently even screwed up Carter couldn't believe he had punched his younger cousin Charlie. That had been the last straw for most of their family.

Instead, she bit her lip and brushed blonde strands of hair out of her own tired eyes. She was wearing a pair of worn out jeans, black combat boots, and a purple tank-top. She had her sword attached to her belt and a black back pack slung over one shoulder, it held the basics of some first aid, extra pair of clothes, and some cash, it also held a few other weapons just in case something happened to her sword.

She really hoped Christian would get here soon!

Christian typically wasn't the type of person to volunteer to help any of New Rome's "famous" families. Whether you met them or not, loved them or hated them, everyone had heard the name "Virgo" and "Davenport." There were others too, like the Sherman's, and it didn't stop there. These families never stepped below Cohort Two; rarely below Cohort One. The concept left Christian defensive constantly. His Cohort was no less effective than theirs, but the social construct of New Rome would always claim otherwise.

Even still, Christian had truthfully volunteered to help this time. He'd left a likely angry Corinne to lead Cohort Five alone, once again. But she wasn't the only one. Rowan Davenport and Aquila Fabius would be left to lead their own Cohorts as well. It wasn't a sacrifice, in Christian's opinion, it was an opportunity to have the Cohort without a usual leader. Others could step in, like their Optios, to show their mettle.

For Christian, it was a chance to start again. He'd shown up that day, having had the chance to bathe for the first time in days, once again. In the mirror, he still saw the fading mark of the gash from the hatchback crash. There was a mark on the side of his head from when Aspen Davenport had slammed him into a wall. They were healing nicely, at least.

He'd shown up that day wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans. He didn't like to do the whole 'boots' thing, so he opted for black sneakers. He was carrying the same black dufflebag that had followed him out of camp several times last month, strapped over his shoulder and chest.

Christian's expression turned skeptical as he looked at the scene in front of him. He'd popped a painkiller before he'd left, but he was close to running out. If all went to plan, this would be the last bottle. "Hey." Christian greeted the two, his tone was suggestive that something was strange. "You sure it's a good idea to be holding that thing?"

"Yeah, I can manage holding a sword, Christian, I've been doing it my entire life," Carter said, running his hand across the blade. He looked up at the two of them and looked behind himself. "Alright, I guess we better go. Praetor said the person who would teleport us is right outside of the Caldecott Tunnel," he said with a more forced tone than he usually had. He swung the sword around, and started making his way across the Tiber and through the tunnel. While walking, Carter kept looking at the sword, feeling as if the sword was embracing him. He knew Praetor had said the sword was taking him over, feeding off of him, but he kind of liked it. It was a new attitude that he brought to the table, and obviously he needed an attitude change, at least according to lots of people. Now Carter had that attitude change.

Carter, when he made his way out of the tunnel, looked around. The two guards and an older woman was standing there.

"I'm assuming these are the Sword Slayers?" the elder woman asked the guards.

"Don't call us the f*cking Sword Slayers, you old dirtbag," Carter said, blowing some hair out of his face.

The old woman frowned. "Alright, sorry. Please gather around, close to each other, so I can make this teleportation as painless as possible."

Sophia sighed, as she followed the older boys through the tunnel. She figured it would be pointless in trying to tell Christian all about the conversation they had had that morning about why Carter probably shouldn't be the one to carry the sword. She knew it wasn't his fault, but she still didn't understand how he thought it was ok for a sword to literally be feeding off of him. It all reminded her of Lord of the Rings maybe a bit too much, and she kept having weird dreams where he turned into Gollum. That could just be the lack of sleep talking though.

"Sorry bout him." Sophia mumbled a soft apology to the older woman. The woman only nodded an acceptance, and proceeded to instruct them to stand closer together. Part of Sophia really didn't want to stand much closer to her brother, but she did anyway.

"Yeah Carter, you were always so fantastic at learning what Rome was specifically not about!" Christian muttered in a sarcastic friendly voice. Christian decided it probably wasn't a good idea to instigate other than a single remark. They would be together for a little while, and as much as Christian yearned to rebel, he knew it wasn't the right call. He decided to follow the siblings down Caldecott in peace.

Now, Christian had to admit, he was impressed in a way. Carter's response time to the old lady was quick, and there was almost some wits in it. Still, you didn't do that to innocent people, and the fact that it was an old lady angered the legacy. Even still, he held back from insulting Carter further. He, instead, looked at her. "I promise I'll get you an apology on the way back. One do good, you'll think he's Canadian." He promised.

He felt reluctant, but he willingly obeyed and clustered close to the siblings. "I bet it's real awkward being the one who isn't related here." Christian made the small talk, partially on impulse, but hopefully to lighten the mood too. He hoped this wouldn't take long.

"Yeah, it's also awkward being the least important here, huh, Christian?" Carter asked with a grin, as they were teleported to the entrance of Fingal's Cave. Carter stopped, looking around, and laughed a bit. "Oh wow, the mission's real hard, Jupiter, f*cking amateur. Let's grab a rock and destroy this, then, that way we can get back to that hellhole," Carter said, stepping forward.

Suddenly, he stepped on a rock and it glowed. The rocks started rumbling, and stone pillars came out of the ground, surrounding them and enclosing them, going to squish them to death.

"Wow, damn, whoever came up with this must've read The Disney Channel Way of Making Traps," Carter said and swung his sword at one of the pillars, but as soon as it broke, it just regrew. "Don't worry guys, I've got this," he said, trying to climb a pillar, but it was getting close enough to the top of the cave that crawling over it might squash him.

Sophia rolled her eyes as they appeared in front of the cave entrance. She had this idea that maybe they should go slowly, the last time they had been here there had been a Dragon there was a real chance that this place had other dangers.

"Knock it off!" She finally snapped, gods she knew he didn't have control over it, but still, it was infuriating. She then had to jump forward, to avoid a pillar that started growing out of the ground right underneath her. She watched as he started climbing up the pillar, "Carter, get down. You're going to die,"she yelled up at him. There was enough room between the pillars for someone to squeeze through, without getting squashed by them...
