PostSubject: Swords and Campers   Mon Feb 20, 2017 9:19 pm

Cassia sat back in her bunk. It was a boring day so far. She was running out of things to do. An idea entered her head. You should go to the arena. No. Yet the idea kept entering her thoughts, swarming her brain. Finally, she gave in and grabbed her weapons. Cassia hated close combat, so she hated the arena. The girl preferred to use her bow. She jogged towards the arena and reached it very quickly. Cassia entered and stood at the sideline, unsure of what to do.

Muir Sinclair was at the arena, where you could usually find the son of Dike. He was one of the best fighters at Camp Half Blood, and he took a lot of pride in that. Muir had a lot of experience even before camp, and the shiny new bead on his necklace was a sign of his completed 3rd year of being a year round camper, and only added to his experience. Muir was fighting a huge Ares kid who came around to challenge often. He was large and fought just with his brute strength. Muir was light on his feet as well as strong. The son of Ares was no challenge for him.

Cassia stood and watched the battle that was going on. The son of Dike verses the so of Ares. She could hear other campers placing bets. Most of the people seemed to be sure Dike's son was going t win, but Ares's kids were rooting for their half brother. She looked at their necklaces to see how long they had been at camp. Her own necklace had four beads. As the fight began, it was obvious who would win. The son of Ares would be defeated.

Muir took care of the son of Ares handily. His sword was at the boys throat as he laid on the ground in record time. Muir smiled at him, pulling his sword back, slipping it under his belt. He offered the boy his hand to help him up. "Maybe next time, mate." Muir said in his strong Scottish accent. He shook the boy's hand and then made his way over to the bench where his water bottle was. Muir sat down and took a huge gulp of his water, and wiped his face off with his towel.

Cassia smiled as the match came to an end. She was very talented with a bow, but wasn't nearly as good as he was in close combat. Cassia watched as he sat next to her on the bench. She turned her attention to the next fight. There was a huge son of Hermes and a tiny son of Hecate. She watched as the son of Hecate won the match. He may have been small, but he was quite powerful.

Muir watched as Iain's small brother fought next. Muir looked over at the girl next to him who was also watching the fight and smiled. Muir looked back down at his sword. Muir started to wipe some dirt out of the inscription, which read, "Ο βασιλιάς του Νέου Μεγάλου Βασιλείου" which translated to "King of the New Great Kingdom." Muir used his pinky nail to dig some dirt out of the first 'O' at the base.

Cassia glanced at the son of Dike. He was absorbed in his sword. She quickly read the inscription. Reading those foreign words came naturally to Cassia. "And are you the King?" Cassia muttered, not very loudly. It was a remark to herself, and he was not meant to hear it. It would so like nonsense to his distant ears.

Muir heard the girl mumble something, but he couldn't make out what she had said. "What was that?" Muir asked, his Scottish accent strong, without looking up from his sword. He finished polishing the blade and, once inspecting it, slipped into it's sheath. Muir began to unstrap his armor.

"Oh nothing," Cassia responded. She stared down at her hands, which were neatly folded in her lap. She really didn't have anything to say. Cassia wasn't that interested in the next fight. Combat just didn't interest her.

Muir looked back over at the girl when she responded. "Well, I'm Muir Sinclair. It's nice to meet you." Muir offered his hand to the girl to shake. "I've never seen you around here before. Are you much of a fighter?" Muir asked, his accent laced over his words.

Cassia shook his hands. "Cassia Bouvet," she said quietly. Her shyness was kicking in. People made her nervous. Typically, she would rather curl up with a good book instead of talking to other campers. "I'm an archer," Cassia added. Archers didn't go to arenas to fight. They fought from farther away. Instead of winning fights, they hit bullseyes. Cassia had been shooting nonstop since she had arrived at camp years ago. She needed to try something different.

Muir nodded in acknowledgment of what Cassia said. "What are you doing here then, mate?" The son of Dike asked, innocently. He had never seen an archer here before. Most of them weren't fighters, really. They had gotten into archery because they weren't front line types.

"Uhh... I got bored." Her answer was short. He might take it as annoyance, but it was just because she was shy. Cassia looked up at him, sick of starting down at her lap. "Do you come here often?" asked Cassia. He seemed like a regular. Everyone around here knew him and his abilities.

Muir nodded, scratching the back of his neck. "Yeah, I spend most of my time here. Fighting is kind of my thing. Usually I'm here or with my best friend, Iain. Cool dude. Known him since we were 6." Muir cut himself off when he realized he was rambling. The son of Dike went back to polishing his stuff, having moved on to his armor, he sword at his side.

Cassia gave him a small nod. "Were you at camp when you met him? Or did you know him before?" It would be a funny coincidence if they knew each other before and then came to camp. She watched as he polished his armor. He used a lot more armor than her. All she had was a small breastplate. Cassia didn't want any armor that would slow her down.

Muir laughed a bit. "Oh,n ah, we were friends back in Inverness. We've been best friends since we met. I was the first person outside of his family he ever told about his magic. He's a son of Hecate, you see." Muir liked talking about Iain. Him and Muir had a bond far greater than any mortal bond, but that was too much to explain to this girl he barely knew.

"Inverness?" Cassia asked with confusion. To him, this close friendship seemed so natural. Cassia had never been close with anyone. We'll anyone not including Thayne.

Muir nodded his head a little bit. "Oh, yeah. We are from Inverness, Scotland." Muir said, his Scottish accent exceptionally strong in that sentence. It was always strange being a non-American here at camp. People always talked about what state they were from and everyone knew where it was and what the area was like. Whereas he was from the Scottish Highlands and no one knew much about that.

"Scotland?" So that's what his accent was from. "I'm from California." That was a big place, and she meant to be vague. "Then I moved to New York. I didn't spend much time at home though." Her voice trailed off. Cassia's past life wasn't exactly her favorite topic.

Muir raised his eyebrow. "Isn't California, like... west?" Muir asked. He felt bad, but he was really bad at American geography. The son of Dike could tell that everything that Cassia was saying was decently vague. He knew a lot about being intentionally vague, so he wasn't going to push.

"West coast," Cassia said. She forgot he wasn't from around here, and wouldn't know this. "I went to boarding school though." Cassia thought back to her days at boarding school. She was much happier there than she was at home. And camp was even better than boarding school. "So do you like to read?" She asked, though most demigods didn't.

Muir smiled. He'd always found that to be a weird question. "Yeah, of course. I love stories." Muir said with a smile. He especially liked hero stories, but she hadn't asked. Muir finished stuffing stuff into his bag. He zipped the bag and looked back at Cassia, smiling.

"Really?" asked Cassia with a shy tone. "Most demigods dislike reading." For demigods, it was hard to sit down for a long time, and to relax and concentrate. The dyslexia also made reading books in English a challenge. Finding a storybook in the language of the ancient Greek would be a challenge. She looked up as two people began to fight. It was a very close match, with master swordplay.

Muir nodded. "It's not the easiest, but very do-able. I learned how to speak and read Scottish Gaelic when I was around 7 and I found that that really helped with my ability to read English, too. Before that I had a lot of issues with the whole dyslexia thing." Muir laughed, rubbing his hand under his nose.

"Most of us have it," Cassia said with a small nod. She was one of the rare cases of people with neither. "So you speak two languages?" Cassia knew French, as she was French.
