The straw dummy was a few dozen meters away, complete with wooden Roman armour, shield and gladius. Unlike any real foe, this particular enemy happened to be stationary, with no way to move, attack, defend or otherwise avoid it's fate. Facing straw legionary was a small girl, in reality she was seventeen, though looked no more than fourteen at best. Small, short, cute were the most common thoughts upon anyone seeing Samantha, the Daughter of Trivia for the first time. Her tiny frame however concealed considerable magical power and talent. Clad in the armour of the Legion, Sam appeared more the younger sibling who had been handed down equipment from larger, bulkier siblings.
Her helmet had been dropped near her booted feet, black leggings, black denim shorts and a purple camp Jupiter t-shirt completed her outfit in regards to normal clothing. She wore the armour of a legionnaire, though the shield also lay on the ground a few paces back. Samantha was much more comfortable casting her spells, when not encumbered by protective equipment.

Her long red hair flowed freely as the breeze ran it's cool gentle fingers through it. Sam took a deep breath, unsheathing her gladius and pointing it at the target. She drew upon her rage, her frustration, drinking in her anger, giving strength to hatred, the raw heat of anger. With a cry of fury leaving her lips, she cast a fireball which flew downrange like the world's deadliest baseball. It struck the target with a hiss of hungry flames, the straw dummy burning in the midday sun.
Samantha slowed her breathing, calming herself. It always felt good to cast a fireball when her frustration began to get to her. Why were her comrades so blind to the benefits and powers of magic? Sorcery was a boon, not a curse. Sure it could be used for cursing or at least, it had the potential to be. But it could also be used to destroy one's enemies, or more importantly the enemies of the Legion.

Okay, maybe from time to time there were the odd accident. Like instructors getting headaches or someone getting shoved by an invisible force, but there was no permanent harm done. Reckless they called her. Undisciplined! It took discipline to learn sorcery. One day she would prove it to them, prove to them the strength and power of sorcery to the Legion.
Sam tried to dispel her anger, a noble attempted yes, but one doomed to fail. No one seemed to understand it, and Sam in spite of her best efforts, no one ever understood. It was hard, particularly as for Samantha, sorcery happened to be as natural as breathing or blinking or the beating of her heart.

She would make them understand somehow. One day.

Emilio was sitting on the cold harsh ground. He was all drenched in sweat after the harsh training that really took a toll on him. It wasn't like the boy wasn't used to it, he was after all trained by a son of Neptune, but Emilio knew him better as 'father' or 'old man'. He didn't really care about violence or such, but nicknamed Milo needed to learn how to fight. That's why he was here, in the Field of Mars. Defense was the best offence as they said, it really came in handy. He looked at the dummy he had just completely destroyed not that far away from him. His powers from Venus weren't really useful in real combat, but hydrokinesis and healing were something he valued. The dummy was soaking wet, not from sweat like he was though.

Milo had always been a tad bit different, like a toddler trapped in a growing teenager's body. Placed in to the 2nd cohort after showing childlike cruelty and strength, maybe even reputation and a tendency to attract people played a role too. His peers wouldn't probably be so fond of him if he wasn't the child of Venus, attracting people like sugar attracts helpless flies.

Emilio was struggling a bit to breathe. He dropped his sheath knife on the ground, put his hands behind him and leaned on them. Observing the sky he tried focusing on breathing. In for 4 seconds, hold for 7 and blow out for 8. The boy tried stripping off his armor, which was very minimal. Armor made him feel like he was trapped anyways. It weighed him down and his speed was minimal. He thought it was stupid to rely on those things. Maybe he'd feel the other way if he didn't have any powers or such.

Milo tried focusing his eyes on the screaming object in front of him. Even if he would usually deny it, he fidgeted a bit. Female, probably was younger than him. She was screaming at an inanimate object, and Milo found it kind of amusing. It was a bit scary though how powerful she was. Who knew what else this redhead could do? Milo wasn't even sure if he wanted to find out. He fumbled for his sheath knife with his dominant left hand, brought it close to his heart and tried standing up. Trying to wipe some dirt off his cheeks with his shaky hands he finally managed to get a nice balance on his two feet.

The boy blinked a few times. His heart was still racing after all the punching, kicking, screaming and other overly dramatic stuff. Emilio wasn't calm yet, all the bottled up feelings had to come out somehow. Milo took a shaky step after another to approach the girl. She had just finished whatever she was doing. Emilio tapped gently her shoulder once, then twice to get her attention. It wasn't hard to guess what he was after. People tapping you on the shoulder in the field of Mars usually meant one thing, they were asking for a fight.

Samantha had been so focused on her own thoughts that she failed to notice the arrival of another demigod, until he tapped her on the shoulder. She jumped, whirling around quickly, bringing her sword up in preparation for any attack. The young girl eyed the other individual up, he was taller than her but virtually everyone tended to be.
She gripped her sword tighter in her right hand. She was aware of the crackling flames behind her, the cool breeze making the grasses whisper and wave, the sun happened to be warm on her back.

Samantha was not popular at Camp Jupiter. She drew the ire of the majority of Romans, mostly due to her magical powers and her desire to master sorcery. It may of also had something to do with the fact that Sam, rarely, if ever fought fairly. In any of the battles against the other cohorts, she would be unleashing her magic with impunity.
Though no one ever seemed to mind her using her teleportation spell, usually on quests or missions. Sam did not mind using it either, however it tended to put her in the infirmary if she cast it.

"Are you ready hero?" She asked, her green eyes blazing like the flaming dummy in the background which collapsed into a pile of charred embers. Without waiting for an answer, Sam attacked swinging her sword in a low swing aiming for his legs.

Emilio stared at her green eyes. He was almost jealous of them, glistening against the fire and the sun. Milo was pretty happy with his eyes though. Most people found partial heterochromia interesting and rather pretty. He had the worst poker face, especially when staring at people's eyes. But she was too intimidating for him to smile, even though he was given the advantage of being taller. Emilio tried to avoid the sword by tilting his head, pretty much exposing his neck. If she wanted to, she could try and kill him any moment now.

It was clear that she wasn't kidding when she asked if he the boy was ready. He certainly wasn't, even though he probably saw the surprise attack coming. Emilio almost changed his mind immediately after she agreed to fight. Stupid testosterone always looking for more 'ouch' moments and distracting him. It had it's advantages to have a nice amount of that in his body though.

Milo got a nice scare and tried taking jumps back, hopping and dodging like little kids did on hopscotches. His shock turned in to laughter afterwards as he whirled the sheath knife between his fingers while still taking steps back. Others saw it as a cowardly move probably, running away from a 4'8" tall girl. Milo saw it as defense and there was nothing bad in protecting yourself. He was buying time, catching his breath and waiting for the girl to attack. He wasn't that good in mid-range. The boy did prefer either hand-to-hand combat or long range. Milo was planning to play smart, tease and tire the girl out, even though most of the time it didn't work. When his eyes met the sunshine, he immediately narrowed his eyes. Looking back at the girl he clicked his tongue in an arrogant manner.

Sam saw the opening with the boys neck, but misjudged the distance so her swing missed. Not that she would of decapitated him, she would of stopped before then. Killing a fellow Roman somehow might not be the best way to prove herself to her fellows within the Legion.
Her foe kept backing up, moving away from her. Up close Samantha held the advantage, her smaller size gave her better agility than her taller foe. She also had an easier time at striking at his centre of mass, where as he on the other hand possessed an advantage in striking against her head and upper body.
Assuming he ever launched an attack of his own of course.

Sam halted her pursuit of him, he evidently was trying to bait her into something. But she needed not to be close with him in order to successfully launch an attack against him. The Daughter of Trivia narrowed her eyes at Milo, concentrating her thoughts and forming them in her head into a fist of violent intent. Channelling the fickle winds of magic, she pushed out with her left hand aiming to use her magic to throw him back several meters.
Yet, the demigod did not see whether or not her attack struck home. The effort of casting such a spell, particularly for such a large target drained her energy, her physical strength failed her. Sam fell to one knee with a clatter of armour, her chest heaving as she struggled to catch her breath. Only after she had succeeded in catching it slightly did she manage to raise her head. Now she would find out whether or not she had been successful in shoving the other Roman or if he simply avoided the assault.
For her sake, Sam hoped the former would be the case, the latter well... That might leave her a little bit vulnerable.

OOC: I didn't want to godmod and say it hit, so it is entirely up to you if it hit or missed ^^ .

Emilio smiled his mouth closed. He tried focusing in the fight, but his mind was wondering. It didn't take a long time for Milo to notice, that it was obvious that this girl was much more clever than him. The only advantage he could possibly have is his size.
He kept moving backwards, now stopping to fiddle with his knife. Emilio had observed the girl before when she was fighting the dolly. He wasn't the brightest soul on Earth but it didn't take him much time either to play guess game, who's daughter was she.
Emilio stared curiously when she attempted to do something that he wasn't really ready for.
It was unfortunate for him, there was not much water nearby as he used it foolishly to soak the dummy and making her fall in love with someone wasn't really worth it. His knife was pretty useless against magic attacks now too. The boy was at great disadvantage.

He felt like a strong gush of wind had pushed him against his will several meters back. Milo collapsed against the ground. He struggled to breath again. He wasn't that badly hurt, but moving wasn't really pleasant either. A clatter of armor could be heard not that far away from him. Emilio tried to support his upper body with his hands. First his chest got up from the ground followed by his head.

He batted his eyelashes a few times and then laughed again. Milo stood up, loosing his balance for a second and the back. "You caught me off-guard!" he puffed before skipping closer to her. Every inch in his body screamed no when he moved but he didn't have much of a choice. He didn't let go of his sheath knife. The fight was way too short for Emilio's taste.

Sam's pulse pounded in her head like the crunch of booted feet, she knew throwing him like that would be difficult but the short girl failed to anticipate just how much the magic feedback would cost her. The demigod's chest heaved as she attempted to get her breath back, she made a mental note to build up to shoving someone of his size. It might be easier she theorised. Samantha possessed a natural affinity with magic and she was ever hungry to improve her magical prowess.
The daughter of Trivia desired complete and total mastery of sorcery, she wanted to prove to everyone that sorcery was useful to the Legion.

She heard the voice of the demigod Samantha had been fighting. The redhead managed to look up, her green eyes filled with a mixture of determination and exhaustion. "You were difficult to shove." Samantha countered as she forced herself to get up off of the ground, her legs ached, in fact her whole body ached, every fibre of her being screaming in protest at the movement. The sorcery sheathed her sword looking up at her fellow Legionnaire and foe. Sam flashed him a smile. "I am Sam, Daughter of Trivia." Oddly, Sam did not have a last name or at the very least a last name which she happened to know of.
Samantha glanced around, keeping a cautious eye out for any more trouble. Every spell she cast, every scroll or book Sam read, the demigod drew ever closer towards her goal. One day she would prove herself, even if the majority of the Legion failed to believe her.

So what if she deliberately gave an instructor a headache or pushed someone who happened to be totally deserving of it into the lake?

Emilio kept waltzing to her direction, hiding his lack of air. Even if the sharp pain almost immobilized him it was only temporary and Emilio had learned how to manage pain.  He wasn't that bitter about being shoved in to the air and meters away, no way. He struggled not to give in to his old habit of grinding his teeth. "Sam? Is that short of something? S-A-M." Emilio waved his index fingers and rhymed to remember her name better. "My name is Emilio. But my friends call me Milo. Enchanté. Means pleased to meet you in French if you didn't know. I doubt that though." he rambled on and shrugged like he didn't care. His name meant many things but the only meaning that could somehow be tied to his personality was 'flattering' in Spanish. Emilio wiped his face with his sleeve. The shirt was ridiculously big for him and he could literally hide Sam in there. The hair wasn't that much better either. His brown straight hair looked like a messy bird nest.
"Trivia, that sounds interesting. I've always been jealous of you people, you have a cool mom. You're usually darn strong, mysterious." he joked around, trying to enlighten the mood after her intimidating introduction.
"I'm the son of Venus and legacy of Neptune." Emilio muttered silently, his words drowning. His mother was pretty much gone and father pretended Milo didn't exist. The boy often felt like a tool, not a son or even human.
He stood next to her and flicked her forehead with his fingers. The boy stared at the girl and studied her close up. Green eyes and red hair sparked often curiosity in him, as complementary colors did. Humans were like canvas for the gods in his opinion. "Payback." Emilio tried keeping the cold voice and after that offered his hand for her to grab and stand up.

Sam folded her arms at him, her name was short for something, Samantha however she preferred to be addressed as Sam instead. "Yes it is short for Samantha, but please call me Sam." She explained to him as if it were something he should merely accepted rather than question. Sam often appreciated questions, but such things about why she did not go look for her father, her preference in names or why she hated being hugged from behind. They were questions Sam openly loathed.
"Charmed." She said in a tone that indicated her to be anything but, the daughter of Trivia did not make friends easily. In pain and exhausted, Samantha failed to come across in a nice manner.

"Goddess of Sorcery." Sam informed him with clear pride in her voice, her magical talents were something which she clearly embraced, perhaps a little too much for her tutors. The wellspring or ocean that happened to be the fickle tides of magic, were not something for the inexperienced. Though Sam appeared to be brilliant in terms of sorcery.
She was not certain to make of him admitting to be jealous of her parentage. From her own experience, many Romans were not a fan of sorcery.
"That is cool, can you move water?" Samantha asked him, pushing her feelings of exhaustion aside for the present moment. "I've always been interested to see the consequences of using a fireball on the water." She suspected it might cause it to boil or turn it to steam. However, there was no better way to discover the truth than by a practical test. Practical tests were better than theory.

Suddenly the boy flicked her forehead with her fingers. Sam shot him a scathing look. "I'll toss you again hero once I get my breath." Her look may of been scathing, but her tone was light and teasing. Clearly, Samantha did not mean to repeat it again. "We'll consider it even now then."

Even the dumbest among us know what the body language of folded arms were. Rejection, fear, insecurity, frustration. Those feelings were sadly something he was used to from males, but not females. He wasn't really making a good fist impression right there. "Right, Sam it is then. I go by any name pretty much. How old are you, by the way Sam?" he clapped his hands together in excitement.
He wasn't that baffled by her tone, she was a Trivia kid after all. That made him even more eager to become friends with her. He saw it as an accomplishment, almost like a title.

"I'm not the most clever soul on this universe but I think I'm smart enough to know that Sam." Emilio changed his tune in to a more playful one, almost like changing a face or even personality. "Sorcery is cool, but don't you think you overdid yourself just a minute ago?" he teased her leaning closer.
"Yes I can move water. But as you can see, there's not much water nearby, unless you want me to move sweat or something. I don't think the consequences of using a fireball on water would be that great." Emilio continued to laugh his famous laugh, something along the lines of horror movies.
"I can also heal but that makes my nose bleed.. oh and make people fall in love with each other or me!" he started counting his fingers, taking pride in his powers.
He would still prefer a cool goddess like Trivia to be his mother. Not Venus with the reputation if being vain and dumb.
He didn't regret the forehead flick not one bit. It was amusing to watch small 'kids' get angry.
"And what if I do flick your head again Sam? What's going to happen Sam? Should we do a practical test Sam?" Emilio asked curiously repeating her name, leaning even closer to her face.
"Or if I pinch your cheeks? What will the aftermath be?" he cooed but reverted back to standing up straight.

She nodded, pleased that he agreed to call her by the name well nickname that she preferred. Sam answered his question with a slim grin. "Seventeen, though most people think I look much younger, thirteen or fourteen." Samantha did not mind this, it came as a bonus as part of being smaller than the majority of other demigods. Though what she lacked in physical stature, she more than made up for in raw sorceress potential.
"Yourself?" She decided to ask a question of her own, might as well find out how old the demigod she shoved backwards was. Who knows? It might be a new record for her.

Samantha took a step back, uncomfortable with how close he was getting towards her. "I disagree." The daughter of Trivia responded stiffly, lying through her teeth. She was drained, exhausted from the effort required to use such a particular spell. But only by pushing her limits could she hoped to achieve her goals.
"No thanks and yeah my thoughts on the matter too." Yet, part of her wanted to see if it might cause a smoke screen, well steam screen to be exact but such a thing could come in handy in the event of a monster attack. He certain possessed a weird laugh, distinct, unlike Sam who rarely if ever laughed.

The power to make people fall in love sounded somewhat concerning, worse than her using her fireball on tents worse. "That must be an interesting power." She said carefully, worried that he might decided to use it on her.
She took another step back as he leaned closer towards her. Samantha debated teleporting away, leaving him here, alone. Another part of her desired to stand her ground and fight. Without thinking the red head drew her sword, the blade gleaming in the sun. She pointed the tip at him. "Ready for round two?" If anyone was not ready it would be her, Samantha was not about to back down however.

Emilio was somehow used to fairly young faces in Camp Jupiter. They had children of Juventas, Apollo, Venus and so on who usually possessed youthful looks. But a daughter of Trivia was a surprise for him. "A daughter of Trivia is 17 but looks younger. That must be interesting, I guess you know how to use that as an advantage." he clicked his tongue comically. She would of course ask his age in return. "We're the same age. I'm 17." scratching the back of his neck he answered. It made the situation awkward. They were the same age, opposite sex and he had been a creep leaning on her making Sam uncomfortable.

"You disagree? But don't you think it would be better to just lie down or something." the volume of his voice dropped a notch. It was a thing he did. Laughing loudly to fill in the silence and changing tones along the topics of the conversation. If his laugh were to be described, it would vary from blowing dandelion seeds to dropping marbles.

"Yes it is an interesting power. It's funny how differently people act when they're in love. Some do super stupid things." he chuckled before a blade shimmering in the sunlight was pointed at him. "Round two? Don't get me wrong but you look a teensy tiny bit tired." Emilio said, even though he was searching for his knife in his pockets.

It happened to be largely due to her shortness of height, but Sam was in the possession of a young and somewhat attractive face. She awkwardly managed to shrug her shoulders at him, still keeping the blade pointed at him in response. Samantha knew she happened to be utterly exhausted, the red haired girl should be regaining her strength rather than desperately and somewhat defiantly attempting to fight.
"We'll see who needs to be lying down." She said calmly, mentally seeking to draw in what little reserves of strengths and resolve Samantha still possessed.

"Yes it can drive good people to murder and honest ones to lie." Yet, Sam did not want to start debating the nature of humanity or demigods with him. "We don't have to." She retorted swiftly. "But I can defeat you again if we need to."

Emilio studied her way of speech, and it was clear that she was tired. He didn't want her to pass out on him or something along the lines of that. "Hey hothead redhead, seriously go lie down or something. You don't look that well." he frowned a bit of worry in his tone.
Emilio grabbed the blade of hers and tightened the grip around it, small drops of blood falling from his left hand. He slowly started moving the blade away from him.(?)

"Trust me I've seen some of the weirdest things." Emilio said, hoping for the awkward discussion to end. The boy had enough of this psychology stuff. He felt a sting of regret when he saw the exhausted girl trying to challenge him again. It was pretty much his fault that Sam was this tired anyways. "Sam, I don't want to fight someone who looks like she saw a ghost, had a heart attack and died." Emilio was nonetheless a son of Venus. It was clear to him when someone looked not that well.

The boy let the blade slowly go and examined his bloody hand. There was no water around for him to heal himself. He in no way would use his sweat and get himself a migraine. "That was a bad decision." he whined and shook his hand.

She let him move the blade away, partly because Sam happened to be too tired to resist and partly because if she moved the blade herself, he may end up without a hand or some fingers. Either way, Samantha would end up in trouble.
She frowned at him, but did not say anything as she cleaned her sword before sheathing it. The red head looked down at his hand as if to say, Not my fault and I'm no healer. She let out a sigh and reached for the canteen of water on her belt, Sam held it out to him. "Here it may help you."

Emilio sighed when she let the blade go. He noticed Sam's meaningful look and rolled his eyes at her in a jokingly manner. He smiled at his hand, looking at it in all angles.
When Sam offered the boy water he nodded to her. "Thanks." he said murmuring, but he really meant it. Controlling the water, it wrapped around around his hand that was bleeding. He felt a slight sting when the wound started becoming smaller and smaller. In the end there was just a small mark on the hand. Now his problem was the headache that healing gave him. "Thank the gods that the wound isn't bigger, or my nose would be bleeding by now." he chuckled at himself.

"Well then.." Emilio said awkwardly, the water dropping on the ground. "D-Do you want to hang out or do something orr.." he avoided her eyes. He wasn't asking her on a date, just asking to hang out but was still this nervous. It would look ridiculous from a 3rd person view.

"You are more than welcome, we are all Legion after all." The small demigod replied, herself feeling somewhat dizzy. Sam watched the effects of the water as he healed himself with it, Samantha herself knew no healing spells and possessed no talent in healing. She knew basic first aid, but nothing really advanced.
"That is a positive. Be glad I haven't teloported otherwise I might have passed out." She added, there must of been something about using such a spell... Perhaps the requirements were simply too taxing for her body and mind to cope with?

"Er...." Was all Sam managed to say at first, for the majority of Romans did not want to spend too much time with her. Eventually, the red haired sorceress managed to say something. "I... I suppose so."
