Volleyball

Cassia sat an the volleyball court. She wanted to play, but she hadn't no opponent. It was hard to play a game of volleyball by yourself. Waiting for someone to join her, she pulled out a book and read. Cassia didn't have any friends to ask to join, so she had to wait until someone showed up. Even if you weren't athletic, volleyball was fun.

Abby was bored. She had finished everything she had planned on doing, so she figured maybe she could find someone to play volleyball with. She twirled the ball she had in her hands, and scanned the courts for someone to ask. She finally spotted someone who seemed about the same playing level as her and approached the girl. "Hey, I'm Abby, want to play a game of one-on-one?" She asked, trying to sound cool, she hated talking.

"Of course!" Cassia said. She had been trying to find someone to play with, but someone came to her. "Should I get a ball- nope! You have one!" Cassia took her place, jogging to the other side of the court. "I'm Cassia," she called out, realizing she forgot to introduce herself. The girl seemed to be close to her level. Cassia pulled down her sleeves so contact with the ball didn't hurt so much.

"Nice to meet you!" Abby says, as she runs to take her place on the court. "Ready?" She asks, she waited a few seconds, then served the ball over the net.

"Nice to meet you too," Cassia said back politely. She would at least have manners. The ball was served, and it soared over the net. Cassia bent her knees, ready to swing. She leapt into the air and winded back her hand. Yelling "ahh," she hit the ball back.

Abby had to run for the ball a bit, but she managed to get under it in time to hit the ball back over the net.

Cassia had to dive low for the ball, and it hurt as her body hit the ground. "Nice hit," she called to the girl, impressed.

"Thanks!" She asks, as she had to jump in order to hit the ball back over the net. "You're not bad yourself."

"Thank you," Cassia responded. She was only half paying attention as she had to leap to get the next ball. Wow, she's giving me a workout.

Abby had to dive for this one, but she managed to get it back over the net.

Cassia had played volleyball her whole life, so she wa quite skilled. The girl used all her strength to whack it over the net.

Abby hit the ball back over, this girl was pretty good.

Cassia had to bend down to hit the next ball over.

Abby had to run and dive again for the next one. She slid under it, and almost missed but managed to get it over the net anyway.

This one was high. Cassia had to jump, and she barely jumped high enough to hit it back over.

The ball fell just over the net, and Abby once again had to almost dive for it. She got it over the net though.

Cassia was quite thankful that she got the ball over the net, though it barely reached.

Abby jumped up and spiked the ball back over the net.

With a thud, she hit the ground, pushing the ball over the net. It went to far though. The ball went out of bounds, and Cassia jogged off the court for a quick sip of water.

Abby took a breath, and wiped sweat off her face. She hadn't even realized she was sweating. She jogged off to get the ball, which was still rolling away.

"Nice playing," Cassia said, just loud enough for the girl to hear her. She was so sweaty, she looked like she just dumped her water bottle on herself.

"You, too," Abby said sitting down on the ground and taking her water bottle out, she took a big gulp of it, "Have you played before?" She asked.

Cassia nodded. "Yup. I was a jock back at home." She played every school sport. How could she pass up the opportunity to do something new. "What about you?"

"Never really played. Casually yes, but not on a team. I was/am a nerd." Abby said, she had top grades in school, but she was pretty good at barrel racing. "Ever ride a horse?"

Cassia had also done well in school. She was smart and athletic, but she never had friends. "Occasionally. We owned a few horses."
