Mortal Parent: Christine Zhou-Kalua . Christine works on the Supreme Court of Hawaii as a judge. Christine married Manu Kalua when Hazel was 13 years old. Manu was the father Hazel never had. Manu owns a restaurant on the coast of Waikiki.

Personality: While Hazel’s mother is known for being headstrong and dedicated, Hazel seems to lack her mother’s tenacity. Hazel has always been a bit more shy and unsure of herself. While sharing some of her mother’s ambitious qualities, it was never in the right direction. Still Hazel has always been a quick study, yet her interests are more in history and art, rather than law. Hazel can be rather rational, usually relying on her brain to act as her compass, rather than her heart. She’s always found it a bit hard to open herself up towards others. Still, Hazel has a need to help others, which is how she found her position as a valkyrie.

Abilities:
Powers: Like all Valkyries, Hazel has the ability to sprout wings.
Call Lightning: A storm cloud appears in the shape of a cylinder that is 10 feet tall with a 60-foot radius, centered on a point Hazel can see 100 feet directly above her. If she’s inside, it doesn’t work. She can call down a bolt of lightning that hits a target within 120 feet of her. She can do this 3x a topic. Alternatively, she could also have it hit a target and then branch out to another, but that takes a slot. If she hits a body of water, all creatures within 100 feet of the point where it hit, will suffer from the lightning bolt. If she hits a construct or technological device, it will short circuit.
Cloudy Days: 2x a topic Hazel can cause a cloudy sky to appear. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it doesn’t.


History: Hazel was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a District Attorney. Christine had always known her daughter’s identity, but kept it a secret from her for many years. When Hazel was 12, she finally told her. Hazel was mad at her mom for keeping it a secret for so many years, but when your mom is great at convincing juries, you don’t stand a chance. When Hazel was sixteen years old she was still living in Honolulu. She had a good life, she spent a lot of time at Manu’s restaurant, working and doing some painting. She painted the murals that are in the restaurant. One night when Manu had gone home and she and another girl were locking up, when a man broke in and threatened to shoot them if they didn’t hand over the money in the cash register. Hazel refused and smashed a plate over his head, and sat on him until the police showed up. Afterwards, Odin appeared when she was walking home and offered her a place among the valkyries. She immediately said yes.
