Ice cream you scream

"You're right. There's no need for dwelling in the past." yeah right, you hypocrite.she thought. "It's was a kitten, but it doesn't matter. Let's just stop the game, and ask questions like normal people do." Ida said sarcastically to him.

"Fine"I pouted and poked her in the arm. "Can I ask first? You asked before, it's my turn now. I mean, it's not my turn cause there aren't turns. I-I mean, l-like you said, normal people. And normal people don't take turns, r-right?"

Ida held the place on her arm he poked. She thought there was turns, just not that formal. The first person would say something, and the second one would build his opinion on top of that. "Whatever, you go first." she said, even though it wasn't really pleasant to reveal anything about her life.

"Okay. Hm..."I trailed off, suddenly realizing that, now that it was my turn I had nothing to ask her. Quick, think of something, silly, you can't leave her waiting, she'll think you're retarded or something. "Is Vanilla your first pet?"I asked, mentally facepalming. Great job, smarty pants.

Ida felt a relief when he asked something 'not-that-personal'. "That canary? No. I used to have a horse named Flicka. I know, cheesy, it's from the movie. She was a Dole-horse. They're used to pull heavy stuff. She died though." Ida finished the sentence with an intimidating voice.

"Um... No offence, but what movie? And what's a Dole horse?"I asked confused, trying to remember reading anything about different horses. "I only know about horses, pegasi and unicorns. And everyone keeps telling me that unicorns aren't real!"I whined and pouted, crossing my arms in defense.

"Uh, none taken. Flicka is an British-American movie about a girl who makes friends with a wild mustang whom she calls Flicka." Ida tried not to sound like a walking encyclopedia and failing not to. "Dole is a Norse horse breed. Nothing that special." she shrugged. It was amusing for her to see his childish view on life. She was tempted to crush his little dreams but reverted from doing so.

"Aww, sounds adorable! We so have to watch that some time! I-I mean, if you'd like to watch a movie with me. Not that it's not okay if you don't, I-I get it! Um, yeah, I-I think you should just ask the next question"I muttered, letting my forehead rest on the table as I mentally berated myself for rambling. Again. Don't be so smooth, dude, the girl can take so much from your endless charm and wit.

"It is a movie targeted for little girls but I can see you liking it." she said in a blunt voice. "I don't mind watching it with you." Ida was irritated by his constant 'hello my name is doormat' attitude. "Okay, my turn. What's the most embarrassing situation you have experienced?" she asked raising one of her eyebrows. It was taking more of a 'truth or dare' turn.

"I think I'll like it too!"I smiled at her and coughed a bit into a napkin. Yeah, happy reminder, you're still sick genius. "Hm, let me think. I have a lot of embarrassing memories. Like, this one time I was taking a shower and this lost ghost just passed through my bathroom, no big deal. Oh, and this one time I got lost in the Fields of Asphodels and my dad send the harpies to bring my back and I did the whole trip hanging upside down, blind due to my shirt having fallen on my face. Oh, I remember another one. The first time I walked into a super market I went to the lady at the cash register and asked 'Miss, do you sell human meat here?'. Cause Fluffy was hungry after the trip and some times he and his siblings ate the bad people in the Underworld and he really liked human meat"

"Yeah, I promise. Are you sure you're really not sick? You don't look so well." she asked him.
Listening to all his stories Ida grew even more jealous of his former life. She had the most boring life anyone could ever have, or that's what she thought. Kind of letting the story go past her she stared with her grey lifeless eyes somewhere far behind him.

"I'm not, I've been worse"I assured her, surprised at her concern. I managed to contain myself from blabbering even more when I noticed the distant look in her eyes. "Ida? What's wrong? Did I say something bad? I'm sorry if I did"I asked, confused at her sudden change of demeanor.

Ida leaned closer to him and looked in his eyes. "I've been worse isn't an excuse! You'll get worse this way. You're so selfish that you''re even making me worry about you!" her ugly green-eyed monster
came out, but she regretted it instantly.
"I mean, just get some rest or something. And good lord, stop apologizing. You're not a damn doormat that people can walk over!" Ida leaned back and said the last sentence with more calm voice. "Anyways, your turn." she said folding her hands nicely on her laps, pretending nothing happened.

I frowned at her sudden outburst, ignoring everything she said and moving over to the other side of the table to sit beside her. "Hey, calm down, chicken nugget. What's wrong? You can talk to me, I promise, I'm trustworthy. What happened?"I asked in a soothing voice as I wrapped my arms around her in a sideways hug and pulled her body to rest her head on my shoulder. "I'm here for you, you know"

Ida didn't really see anything coming, as she thought he had learned his lesson from last time. "What the-" was all she could say after being pulled in a warm hug. Ida felt it wasn't appropriate at all. "Excuse me, are you implying that there is something wrong with me? And don't you dare call me with nicknames!" she tried squirming away from his hands. "There's no need to talk!"

"There is though"I insisted and let her go, still having a tight grip on her shoulders which I used to make her focus on me. "I'm not implying there is something wrong with you, my little chicken nugget, stop being so defensive. I'm not here to make fun of you or mock you. I won't hurt you, I promise. I just want to know what makes you so scared to let go. I'm not judging you but I'm here to get to know you better and this is a big part of it. If you don't want that, just let me know. I told you I can't do this back and forth and I meant it. Be clear with me just like I'm being clear with you"

Ida hated it. Every single bit of it. She was forced to speak and even worse, obey. She was known for being stubborn her whole life, and she wouldn't back down this time either. "I told you there's nothing wrong with me, didn't I? I told you, not to call me with weird, didn't I? There's multiple ways you can get to know to me. Holding me from the shoulders and threatening is not really an effective one." Ida said.
It seemed that every time they spoke something like this came up. Despite her efforts it always led to this. "You know you're really making me question my sanity."

"I am not threatening you! Just when I think I am finally getting you to start liking me, you go all berserk on me and I have no idea why! I don't know if you're used to things being this way, but I'm not. I'm sorry, I really do like you but I can't sit around and listen to you scream at my face for no apparent reason! So either give me said reason or stop!"I exclaimed, starting to feel anger bubble up inside me.

Ida collected her thoughts and calmed down. "Fine then. If you give me two options, I choose the latter one." she answered him shortly, expecting for him to let go. It was always this way she lost her friends. Dropping the fight, hurting others and reverting back to that intimidating girl who always has her nose in a book.

My frowned deepened as I searched her face for an answer. "Are you giving up on this already? Is this all this was? Chickening out at the first problem? Why?"

"Oh, you prefer for this to escalate to a fight then? Sorry, not really into that kind of business." Ida slowly tried moving his right hand away from her shoulder. "Better drop it off."

"I don't want to escalate this to anything! I want you to be honest with me! I know I can get pretty annoying - and I want you to tell me when that happens! I want to know more about the girl I like but I can't do that if she won't let me"I sighed in a defeated tone and let my hands fall from her shoulders. "Please, Ida"I added in a softer, lower tone of voice. "Just try"

"There's no need for honesty right now. These are my problems and burdens I deal with alone. There's no need to share any. This is how I deal with things, without harming anyone with my 'feelings'. You can get to know many parts of me. I don't mind. Just not this one. You and I are much better without those things." she tried explaining, that she wasn't really ready to share everything about her just yet.

I finally smiled again, a wide, happy grin. "Oh, silly chicken nugget - and no, I don't mean that in a bad way. You won't 'harm' me by sharing. That's not how this works. I won't be burdened, I'll be glad to help you out. I understand not being ready to share but just know that, whenever you feel you can trust me enough, do so. There's is no need to fight alone what can be better handled by a team."

Yes, I will harm you. You're still innocent and you don't understand. The ships sink always under fire. Ida didn't even try to say that to him and kept quiet. "Suit yourself." she turned away sideways, staring somewhere far away yet again. Ida was completely red. Not sure if from all the shouting or the various 'I like you' confessions. "You look like the Cheshire cat, smiling like that." she rhymed accidentally.
